Description

Teapot Trust is a Scottish charity providing transformative art therapy in hospitals and communities across the UK. We are at the forefront of mental health support for children, young people and families living with chronic physical conditions.

The charity’s main activities are:

  • Providing art therapy and creative wellbeing interventions through which children and young people are supported to explore and express their feelings, build resilience and develop positive coping strategies.
  • Working within the UK, we meet children, young people and families’ needs in any appropriate setting (including hospitals, mental health facilities, community venues and online) – often in partnership with others.

We also seek to have a wider impact and to bring lasting public benefit beyond the charity’s core community of interest by improving both public and professional understanding of the impact of art therapy – often effective where traditional talking therapies have failed.

We began working with the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow in 2012. Pre-pandemic, this took the form of two weekly open groups, on Tuesdays and Fridays, for the Rheumatology clinic, as well as providing one-to-one sessions for children and young people referred by Rheumatology clinicians and nurses. All told, 5697 art therapy sessions have been provided, supporting around 2,000 children.

During the pandemic, art therapy has been delivered online through both small groups and one to one support.
