Platform is the arts centre at the heart of The Bridge, located in Easterhouse, Glasgow. We offer year-round Taking Part workshops and classes as well as a varied performance, music and visual arts programme.
Platform views culture and creativity as a bedrock of a healthy and inclusive society. Our work is rooted in our location and engages directly with our audiences. We work with a range of local and national partners to bring together communities and artists.
Our online Taking Part programme is open to everyone from all locations and is completely free - some activities are off for the summer break but we have some projects running over this period.
Whilst our building is closed, we have been looking at ways to support our local community and beyond by bringing some of our programme to you at home.
If you have any questions, would like details on how to join in with any of the groups below, or would just like to say hello, we’d be really delighted to hear from you - please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back in touch.
FREE TAKEAWAY FOOD SERVICE
We are running a FREE MEAL TAKEAWAY SERVICE for children and their families living in the North East of Glasgow. Taking place throughout the school summer holidays, starting from Monday 29 June until Friday 7 August, the Platform team will be giving out free meals to take away and eat at home.
Meals can be collected between 11.30am and 1.30pm (Mon to Fri) from The Bridge Car Park. 1 person to collect where possible. We will also be giving out free creative activity packs! Thank you to the Glasgow City Council's Children's Holiday Food Programme for the funding.
TAKING PART ACTIVITIES
Through working with artists, we’ve been able to take some of our Taking Part activities online to those who regularly engage with our sessions and want to share details with you in case you’d like to get involved. There’s something for all ages across drama, music and visual art. All activities are FREE.
We have also been posting out art packs, newsletters and letters to those involved with our groups. We also have a fun Mail Art project running.
ACTIVITIES RUNNING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:
Platform Singers Choir
Our community choir is now taking place online every Friday afternoon on Zoom. Aimed at adults, and run by choir leader Rachel Hynes, Platform Singers is a fun, friendly group and no singing experience is needed! The session starts off with time allocated for chat and catch up before the singing starts. Plus if you need some tech support to help get you online, we can assist with this.
There are also other benefits related to singing including helping with breathing techniques, improving your posture, lowering stress levels and providing a bit of a work out!
Join our Mail Art project
We have recently launched a fun new mail art project for North East Glasgow and would love for you to get involved. We’ll send you some inspiration and a stamped addressed envelope to post back your contribution – this could be a drawing, photograph, story, poem, joke - it’s all allowed! We will share some of these in our fortnightly newsletter – in print and online. You can find the latest issues on the Platform website.
Ideas for wee ones
We’re missing our weekly Play Café sessions for 0-4 year olds and their adults but we are posting an activity for early years audiences on our social media channels each week. From fun things to make and do to music and performance, these will hopefully keep your little ones entertained! Check in to @platformglasgow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday mornings at 11am to see what’s new.
ONLINE TAKING PART ACTIVITIES (RUNNING UNTIL JUNE 30th 2020):
Saturday Art Club & Nu Gen…at home!
We have been encouraging our Saturday Art Club 4-11 year olds and our Nu Gen teenagers to get creative at home, with the help of artist Alice Dansey-Wright.
Every Saturday morning we have been emailing out weekly activity packs to our Saturday Art Club mailing list. So far there have been all sorts of bright, wonderful and colourful creations made – including paper dolls and mini theatres! 11 art worksheets are on the Platform website and ideal for those aged 4yrs plus - visit the website to get them.
Our Nu-Gen regulars are meeting on Tuesday evenings on Zoom with Alice and are working through creative activities and sharing their work each week.
Platform Drama for 7-25 year olds
For the past month Creation Station (for 7-11yr olds), Lab Station (12-16 year olds) and Platform Young Company (16-25 year olds) have been meeting weekly on Zoom to chat, collaborate and share pieces of work and performances.
The groups are all artist led and if you are interested in performance, this a great way to meet like minded people. No previous experience required! Read more about the Platform Young Company sessions on Saturday mornings and Lab & Creation Station sessions on Monday evenings on the Latest section of the Platform website.
HOMESKOOL BEATBOX ADVENTURES WITH SHLOMO
Although, not part of our programme, we are also excited to be helping promote HOMESKOOL BEATBOX ADVENTURES WITH SHLOMO – a fun, new show which will be streamed online on Thursdays at 2pm on our @platformglasgow Facebook page (running until 11 June). The show aims to provide an entertaining and educational experience for families in isolation - and also looks to raise funds for NHS Charities Together. More information: beatboxadventures.com
We can assist with technical advice if struggling to get online to the various channels in which to take part in our classes.
