Place2Be is a children’s mental health charity with over 25 years experience, providing counselling and mental health support and professional learning in schools. In Scotland we currently work in partnership with schools across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Dundee reaching a total population of approx. 15,000 children and young people.
We are committed to helping children with their mental health. Our approach to children’s mental health means we aim to intervene early to prevent life-long mental health issues.
We provide support early to spot mental health problems before they develop and help children cope with challenges throughout their lives.
We use an effective therapeutic approach which is backed by research and combines several ways of working.
We offer a flexible menu of services, tailored to meet schools’ need. Our whole school approach to in-school mental health support, includes an embedded counsellor, providing:
Targeted one-to-one interventions
Small group interventions including Journey of Hope
Support for parents and carers
And consultative space for school staff
Place2Be offers a range of professional learning programmes on mental health in schools – to both school staff and headteachers. This includes ‘Place2Think’ consultative sessions that provide a reflective space for education professionals supporting mental health/resilience/wellbeing in school communities. Place2Be also works with the Universities of Edinburgh (Moray House) and Stirling to provide and innovative Teacher Education Pilot to equip student teachers with the skills and understanding to support children’s mental health.
