GCIL is run by disabled people for disabled people. We believe that barriers disable people, not impairments. Our self-directed support, training, housing and employment services enable disabled people to assert more control over their lives as equal citizens.
We are able to provide general advice and support to anyone using self-directed support (SDS) funding to employ their own Personal Assistants (PAs) (including people not currently registered with our Support Service). We can also signpost people needing additional personal or social care support to other options and community services.
We may also be able to signpost people looking to obtain work as a PA, or paid carer, with available opportunities and / or match people with disabled people looking to recruit more support.
Our Housing Service can provide information and support on finding accessible accommodation.

Although 'Additional social care support' is the nearest fit with what GCIL does, in practice, our Support service does not provide additional, hands-on 'care'. However, we can provide advice, support and information to anyone who uses Self-directed Support (a direct payment) to employ their own Personal Assistants, or contracts with care agencies for their support. We are also the first point of contact for PAs and PA employers looking for emergency supplies of PPE. Finally, our Housing service can provide information, support and advocacy on finding accessible housing.
We are currently providing services via remote working rather than from our office base.
