Amma Birth Companions is a Glasgow-based charity that supports women and birthing people who are experiencing significant adversity on their journey to parenthood. Our mission is to improve birth, pregnancy and postnatal experiences and outcomes for vulnerable individuals.
Our team of fully trained, nurturing and compassionate birth and mother companions offers support on a voluntary basis to people facing pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood alone. This includes, but is not limited to, refugee and asylum-seeking women.
Our companions offer one-to-one emotional and practical support throughout the perinatal phase, which is complemented by peer support activities.
Anyone
We support vulnerable women and birthing people, including those who are:
- Survivors of trafficking, domestic abuse, or sexual violence
- Experiencing isolation and who do not have a system of support in Glasgow
- Anxious about facing pregnancy or birth alone
- Experiencing barriers to understanding information or accessing services
